[NEWS] KARA holds press conference after rehearsal for NHK’s ‘Kohaku Uta Gassen’

On December 29th, the ‘62nd Kohaku Uta Gassen‘ opened up rehearsals at the NHK Hall in Shibuya.

SNSD and KARA attended the rehearsals, where SNSD performed their Japanese debut single, “Genie“, and KARA performed a medley of their 2011 hits and their hit tracks, “Jet Coaster Love” and “Mister“.

After the rehearsals, KARA held a brief press conference to greet reporters, where Seungyeon expressed, “A lot of things happened this year, and it was truly a jet coaster-like year.” Nicole added,“We busily promoted in both Korea and Japan, and I think it was a year where we matured and developed a lot.”

Jiyoung stated, “I’m glad that we can get more people to know about KARA through our attendance at the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.” Hara asked, “The five of us will work hard next year so please look forward to our promotions.”

Nicole also hinted at their stage performance by adding, “We’ll be wearing red outfits on stage today.”

When asked whose performance they were most looking forward to, Gyuri replied, “SMAP.”

The ceremony will broadcast live on December 31st at 7:15 p.m.

[NEWS] KARA to hold first concert ‘KARASIA’ in 2012

DSP Media has announced that KARA will be holding their first ever concert called ‘KARASIA‘!

The girls and their fans have been dreaming of this event since their debut, and it seems like all their trials and triumphs have finally paid off.

On December 30th, representatives of DSP Media updated KARA’s official homepage with a new notice stating, “Hello, this is DSP Media. We would like to inform our Kamilias about the concert you have been waiting for for a very long time. In February, KARA will be holding their first concert, and we would like to open tickets to our fanclub members first.”

The concert will be held at the Olympic Gymnasium on February 18th and 19th. Fanclub members will be able to purchase tickets starting January 10th, while the rest go on sale on the 12th.

[NEWS] KARA ranks #5 on Oricon’s list of stars who made 2011 shine

Girl group KARA has once again been acknowledged for their popularity in Japan for the year 2011.

Japan’s music chart and magazine Oricon Style released a ranking of 10 artists that made Japan’s entertainment world shine in 2011.

In this ranking, Japanese girl group AKB48 took first place, then child actress Ashida Mana, then boy group Arashi. In fifth place was KARA, the only Korean group to make the list.

KARA was able to beat SMAP, a very popular Japanese group. Oricon’s rep called KARA “the representative girl group that is leading the K-pop boom in Japan”.

KARA had numerous hits in Japan this year with “Mister,” “Go Go Summer,” “Jet Coast Love” and more that all topped the Oricon.

[NEWS] Park Gyuri Wants to Meet SMAP Too

Other than the fact that her group will be performing in the most prominent music ceremony in Japan, Kara’s Park Gyuri seems to have more to look forward to than just the performance.

On December 29, Sponichi Annex reported that the rehearsal for the 62nd NHK Red & White Song Battle, to be aired on December 31, took place on December 29 in Tokyo. Kara was seen onstage this day in red clothing, singing a special Kara medley.

In a meeting with the press, the members of Kara mentioned they were very busy trying to attend year-end ceremonies and specials in both Korea and Japan, and said, “As soon as we get back [to Korea] we have a live broadcast, and tomorrow we’re coming back to Japan.”

When she was asked whether she wants to see any singers in person at the Red & White Song Battle, Park Gyuri said shyly that she wanted to meet SMAP’s Shingo.

SMAP is a beloved household name in Japan, as it is a group that has been active for 20 years. Its members include Kimura Takuya, Girls’ Generation Yoona’s ideal type, and Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, a.k.a. Cho Nan Gang in Korea, who promoted a single titled I Love You So Much in Korea.

Girls’ Generation and TVXQ will also be appearing with Kara on the 62nd NHK Red & White Song Battle.

[NEWS] KARA beats AKB48′s Maeda Atsuko’s record of most Blu-ray discs sold in first week

Korean girl group, KARA recently made their best BD (Blu-ray disc) sales record in Japan yet!

On December 28th, according to Oricon, ‘KARA Vacation 2‘ which was released on December 21st sold a total of 7,000 copies in it’s first week achieving #1 in the ‘weekly idol image’ category. This record is the highest ever recorded for first week BD sales.

Until now, Maeda Atsuko, member of Japanese girl group AKB48, held the #1 spot as she sold 4,000 BD copies in her first week. However, she has now fallen to second place as Kara sold 3,000 more copies.

This isn’t the first time Kara grabbed the top spot in the BD sales category. Last year, they rose to #1 for BD sales, making this year their second year of dominating Blu-ray sales in Japan

The Korean-Chinese-Japanese collaborative drama series “Strangers 6” is about a group of six experts from the police forces of Korea, China, and Japan who are secretly gathered to protect the countries’ economic futures. The drama is scheduled to be shown on WOWOW(China) 01/27/2012, Fuji TV(Japan) 2012, MBC(S.Korea) 2012.

The K-Pop groups SHINee and Kara, both extremely popular even in Japan, announced that they are singing the Original Soundtrack for the drama “Stranger 6” along with the representative Japanese guitarist/singer Hotei Tomoyasu. While SHINee brightens the drama with an upbeat dance track, Kara plans to adorn the romantic moments with a soft, lyrical song. KARA’s song is entitled ‘My Prayer’ composed by Sweetune.
